"Reflections" Copyright 2012 Scott Deitering

This image is an image that I took when scouting out an idea for an image. This is a photograph of the Seattle Public Library. This is a one of a kind glass building that has become a landmark that has become a must see stop in Seattle. I have captured a couple of images from the inside but never anything I was happy with from the outside. In my quest to capture an image of this icon I decided to take the image and change the focus from the building to the reflections on the building. As I recomposed I was able to create an image that I felt was as interesting as the library.

"Flowers 'N Fences" Copyright 2012 Scott Deitering

Happy Belated Mother's Day! Ok, this post may be a few days late. That brings me to today's tip of the day. Went it comes to digital photography photo's are just files until they are shared. I took this image in honor of my Mom because carnations are her favorite flowers. I wanted to capture an image of the flowers that was not your everyday flower picture. As I was looking for a place to take the photograph I saw some great light being reflected off a near by building on to this fence. So I placed the flowers in the fence and created this image. But the image was not doing me any good on my hard drive. Now that I am sharing this image for all to enjoy I want to wish all the Mom's out there a Happy Belated Mothers Day.

"Old School Space Needle" Copyright 2012 Scott Deitering

The Space Needle is sporting a new look as you can see in today’s photograph.  Well, actually it is an old look.   This year the Seattle Center is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the world’s fair, as I mentioned in my Monorail post.  To honor the occasion Space Needle has been repainted to its original color of Galaxy Gold.  I felt that today was a fitting day to publish this image as we are starting a run of amazingly warm and sunny weather here in Seattle.  Shooting in bright daylight can be a challenge, as sometimes it can be too bright for the camera or make images look flat.  However, bright sunny weather is one of my favorite times to shoot bright bold colors as the intense sunlight can make them pop and provide good contrast these colors need, as is the case of the orange of the space needle and the blue sky.  So, don’t be afraid to take your camera with you when you are out enjoying the sun you might just be surprised what you can create!

"Cloudy Super Moon" Copyright 2012 Scott Deitering

Saturday was this year’s Super Moon.  For those who do not know what a Super Moon is, it is when the moon is full and at its closest point to the Earth.  However today's post is is not about the shot that I captured, it is about the shot I missed.  I was not expecting to be able to take an image of the moon, as it was cloudy most of the day.  However, just as the moon rose, the sky cleared and I rushed outside to capture the moon emerging from behind the clouds.  I set my exposure, composed my shot, pressed the shutter, and I heard beep, beep, beep.  I looked down at my camera and I saw something no photographer wants to see when taking a shot they can only get maybe once a year.  No Memory Card!  In my excitement to capture an image that I did not think I would be able to, I didn't’t grab any memory cards. I had missed the moon coming up over the hills and from behind the clouds when I ran inside to grab a memory card. I was able to capture an image, just not the one I wanted.  So today’s tip is to always keep your camera ready to shoot because you never know when you will get a chance to snap that rare image.

May 1, 2012

Today is May 1, 2012 also known as May Day. All day there were protests in Seattle and I was able photograph a march of protesters in the afternoon. I wanted to tell the whole story of the events that I witnessed. To accomplish this I created this video which is a slide show of the events I saw thru my camera.
